Berlin / Potsdam (dpa / bb) - In the Brandenburg retail trade, the 2nd Saturday in Advent was comparatively quiet.

Business in the outskirts and smaller towns in particular could have been able to match the sales level of the previous year, said the general manager of the Berlin-Brandenburg trade association, Nils Busch-Petersen, on Saturday afternoon.

Especially in larger cities and central locations, however, the dealers reported a drop in sales of around 40 percent compared to the previous year.

In the state capital Potsdam, too, people - usually wearing masks - were out and about in the city center. For example, the last gifts for St. Nicholas Day or the wish lists for the Christmas holidays were bought. In the shops, there were strong discounts for shopping. In the Dutch Quarter in Potsdam, many business people had decorated the areas in front of their shops with Christmas firs.
