Berlin (dpa) - SPD parliamentary group leader Rolf Mützenich has criticized his Union colleague Ralph Brinkhaus (CDU) for calling for more Corona aid from the state side.

The discussion is just a pretext.

"This debate should only distract from the fact that the Union wants to put the red pencil on the welfare state in the end," said Mützenich of the Düsseldorf "Rheinische Post" (Saturday).

It is the welfare state that leads many people through the crisis well.

With his push for a larger country contribution to Corona aid, Brinkhaus had raised a broad national front against him, including from his own ranks.

But he also had the backing of Union budget and economic experts.

Mützenich, on the other hand, calls for the discussion about a fair distribution of the burdens after the crisis has been overcome.
