In Kuwait, counting the votes of the voters in the National Assembly elections began, after the headquarters of the election committees were closed, after witnessing a noticeable intensity in the last hours prior to the closing of the polls.

The elections took place amidst strict precautionary measures imposed by the Corona pandemic, and the organizing authorities have designated committees for those infected with the virus, by a committee in each of the five departments of the country.

326 candidates, including 29 women, are competing in the elections, while the number of those entitled to vote is about 560,000.

The results are to be announced officially tomorrow morning.

The electoral districts are divided into 5, so that Kuwaitis choose 10 candidates in each district, so that the final number of seats will be 50.

Voting took place according to procedures imposed by the Ministry of Health on voters due to the Corona pandemic, most notably wearing masks, measuring temperature before entering committees, preventing gatherings, maintaining physical distancing, and identifying pathways for entry and exit.

The Kuwaiti National Assembly has strong legislative and oversight powers, and any deputy can question the prime minister or any minister.

Deputies can also withhold confidence from any minister, which necessitates his dismissal or declaring non-cooperation with the government, in this case the matter is referred to the Emir of the country who may dismiss the government or dissolve Parliament.
