05 December 2020 "No elderly will pass, because obliged by law, Christmas alone, no non self-sufficient will be deprived of assistance, no family will be deprived of Christmas. Let's think rather of being responsible and living the weeks we have before us with rigor, seriousness and solidarity and not because a Dpcm foresees it, but because only in this way will we be able to protect and safeguard the health of our grandparents, our elderly, the weakest ". The Minister for Regional Affairs and Autonomies, Francesco Boccia, writes in a long post on Facebook.

"The Opposition Theater"

"The rules for the Christmas holidays should not be considered constraints but responsibilities towards others - underlines the minister -. It is sad to witness the theater of a part of the opposition that instead of putting itself at the service of the country to face the emergency, he continually blows on the fire of suffering. For months Salvini has been going from 'let's open' to 'close' everything. His irresponsible declarations against restrictions, both in the first and in the second wave, are unfortunately part of the history of this pandemic. As well as the very harsh ones. accusations against the government in often violent tones by Matteo Salvini himself and Giorgia Meloni twice about the continuation of the state of emergency both at the end of spring and in summer. Unfortunately, all is sadly in the proceedings of the public and parliamentary debate ".

"Only exploitation"

"Now - continues Boccia - we are also witnessing the attempt to exploit the ban on travel between municipalities which concerns only three days (25, 26 December and 1 January). Even more absurd and spurious polemics if we think that the same ban was already foreseen for the territories in the orange and red zones and no one has ever complained that a grandfather or an elderly person could remain alone. Why? Simply because it has never been like this, no elderly have been deprived of assistance; necessity was foreseen then, as is foreseen now ".

Battle in progress

"They seem to me artfully constructed accusations to divert attention from the battle that we must fight together, especially in this month of December: maximum containment of the infection and support for health networks. For them there is always something else. First. the business, the protests, the suffering of those who do not want rules, the criticisms of those who do not believe in vaccines, the protests for the extension of the state of emergency ... the list is long, but it is not a list with which to build national cohesion but it is the list of fuses that only serve to ignite the climate. And we still respond with 'let's go forward together' always and only to secure the country's health ".

"The time for confrontation

will come

"

"Then the time for political confrontation will come, but we will do it out of the pandemic, not in the greatest health tragedy in modern history. Instrumentalizing the dead one day, Christmas another, families yet another, the elderly, the migrants. I repeat it once again: no elderly will pass because Christmas is obliged by law, no one who is not self-sufficient will be deprived of assistance, no family will be deprived of Christmas. Let's think rather of being responsible and living the weeks we have before with rigor, seriousness and solidarity, and not because a Dpcm foresees it but because only in this way will we be able to protect and safeguard the health of our grandparents, our elderly, the weakest ", underlines the minister.

"Hospitalizations are decreasing"

"Thanks to the measures of the last two months - recalls Boccia -, taken despite the strong contrast of some opposition groups in Parliament, the Government with the commitment of regions and local authorities, the index of infections Rt it dropped from 1.72 to 0.91, finally reducing hospitalizations in the medical area and those in intensive care. In this way, in the next few days we will also be able to bend the death curve which, unfortunately, is still too high. 59,514 victims are not numbers, but family stories, lives broken too soon, mourning that will not be forgotten, especially this Christmas.

Zaia's sense of responsibility

Also for this particular attention I want to publicly thank the President of Veneto, Luca Zaia, for the meaning of responsibility also shown today with the strong request to citizens to avoid gatherings 'in the shopping streets and beyond'; Zaia belongs to the same political group as Salvini, dis we often cut hard on measures and different policies, but in the end we are always on the same side when it comes to implementing them: the part of the state and of collective interests.

One more sacrifice

We all know the social, cultural, economic, spiritual value that the coming weeks represent for our country, but this year we need an even higher collective sacrifice to protect the most fragile people and prevent all the efforts made in months that we have behind us, starting from those made by health professionals, may be null and lead us into the third wave. Italy once again needs the solidarity and sense of belonging of the Italians which leads to respect for the rules even when they are painful like those that limit Christmas. United we will make it ".
