China News Service, December 4th. According to the European Times, a few days ago, the 2019 immigration report released by the German Federal Government showed that the status quo of German immigration is changing, with more and more foreign students and fewer refugees.

In 2019, of the 81.8 million residents living in Germany, 1 in 4 had an immigrant background (21.2 million).

Compared with 2018, this number has increased by more than 400,000.

The largest number of immigrants is Turkish immigrants.

The report defines immigration background as, "When a person or one of his parents did not obtain German citizenship at birth, then that person has an immigration background."

In 2019, the number of new immigrants in Germany was 1.6 million, which is similar to 2018.

66% of immigrants come from European countries. At the same time, the number of German residents who have moved out of the country is 1.2 million.

According to the report, this is the lowest fluctuation in immigration changes since 2011 in Germany.

The number of German refugees dropped again in 2019.

In 2019, the number of people applying for refugee status was 1425.9 million, which is about 20,000 fewer than in 2018.

The number of foreign students is rising.

Approximately 410,000 foreign students registered for the 2019/20 winter semester of German universities, and about one-quarter of them have obtained formal study qualifications from German universities.

About 110,000 of them started their studies in German universities in 2019, an increase of 10,000 from 2015.

Among the freshmen enrolled in 2019, Chinese students ranked first, Indian students and Italian students ranked second and third.

In addition, the number of skilled immigrants from non-EU countries increased by about 5% compared with 2018, reaching about 64,000.

In 2010, the number of skilled immigrants was still 30,000.

During this period, the number of senior skilled immigrants rose from more than 19,000 to 39,000.
