Leipzig / Dresden (dpa / sn) - The people in the Leipzig district have to be prepared for strict corona measures from this Thursday.

Among other things, according to the current general decree, they are only allowed to leave the house or apartment with a valid reason - for work, school and daycare or sports and shopping.

In pedestrian zones and on playgrounds, for example, it is mandatory to wear a mask, and alcohol is prohibited in public places.

Leipzig is the last of ten districts that relies on strict rules in accordance with the state's specifications to contain the pandemic.

Chemnitz has already tightened its measures, only in Leipzig and Dresden no exit restrictions apply.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, Saxony currently has the highest rate of new infections within 7 days per 100,000 inhabitants nationwide.

In order to get the numbers under control and to avoid another lockdown like in the spring, Saxony is also relying on rapid tests.

Schools, daycare centers, care facilities or even communities in corona hotspots can be tested across the board.

According to the Ministry of Health, the tests are to start at the end of the week in five particularly affected districts - including in Rathmannsdorf in Saxon Switzerland.

In the first stage, 20,000 tests are initially available.

The aim is to shed light on the number of unreported cases, said Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) in advance.
