Böblingen (dpa / lsw) - After the scandal about alleged animal protection violations in a slaughterhouse in Gärtringen, the Böblingen District Office wants to part with the official inspectors employed there.

There are two official veterinarians and two assistants, said a spokesman for the district office on Thursday on request.

District Administrator Roland Bernhard stated that misconduct is human, but should not be "tolerated" in the sensitive area of animal welfare.

For a "credible restart of the slaughterhouse" you need unbiased control personnel.

According to its own information, the district has now evaluated more than 500 hours of raw video material in connection with the allegations against the slaughterhouse.

They wanted to clarify the question of whether official veterinarians of the veterinary supervisory authority had violated official duties.

An official veterinarian could have proven violations in four slaughter processes, it said.

Possible misconduct by the butcher was not investigated, the public prosecutor is investigating.

The slaughterhouse is operated by a cooperative and should remain closed at least until mid-2021.

The district office announced that they were working together with the cooperative on a concept for a new start and that they wanted to present concrete plans this year.

"Intensive training" is ensured when selecting new control personnel.

The “Soko Tierschutz” association published images from the slaughterhouse at the end of August.

He had accused employees, among other things, of hitting and kicking pigs, using stun guns and unprofessionally stunning the animals.

Against this background, the supervisory authority temporarily closed the slaughterhouse.
