The Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder would like a different public debate with regard to the high number of corona deaths.

The CSU politician explicitly called for greater attention to be paid to what he saw as the unacceptably high death rates.

He said it could not be explained why this aspect was not rated higher.

"This is an ethical surrender," says the CSU boss during a visit to the Corona hotspot Passau.

At the same time, Söder warned again of the high level of corona case numbers in Germany.

“We are in a second, much more violent wave.

The hospitals are slowly filling up, ”said Söder.

Overall, the number of infections in Germany should decrease significantly.

This is especially important before Christmas.

If that doesn't succeed, “contacts will have to be reduced even on New Year's Eve,” says Söder.

The Prime Minister reserved new political measures in this case.

During his visit to the border town of Passau, Söder also provided information on how to proceed in the state.

A hotspot strategy should be used to respond to the high number of cases.

A special focus will therefore be on reducing the numbers in old people's and nursing homes, as Söder announced.

Nursing and nursing homes are to be made available more rapid tests in the future.

Residents, employees and visitors should be able to be tested several times a week.

In addition, Söder announced a complete equipment with FFP-2 masks for all retirement and nursing homes in Bavaria.

"Retirement and nursing homes are hotspots within hotspots," warned Söder.

"Vaccination is a requirement"

In connection with border traffic, Söder announced that he wanted to keep the borders with the Czech Republic and Austria open.

In addition, more stability should be created in small border traffic, for example in commuter traffic.

He is offering talks to both neighboring countries, said Söder.

In this context, he again praised the quarantine obligation announced on Wednesday by the Austrian government for travelers from risk areas of the Austrian government.

The subject of vaccination is a “bright spot”.

All vaccination centers in Bavaria would be established by December 15.

In particular, he urged risk groups and people who worked with them to get vaccinated - that was "a requirement".

In the Bavarian border town of Passau, the situation has been particularly dramatic for days.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, the incidence - i.e. the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants - was 450.8 (as of December 3, 00:00).
