Fulda (dpa / lhe) - In winter temperatures around freezing point, the Fulda police are looking for a missing child again.

An eight-year-old boy left the room towards the toilet at a meeting with his mother in a youth welfare facility on Wednesday evening and has since disappeared, the police said on Thursday.

Presumably the child did not wear a jacket.

Immediately initiated search and investigation measures in the area were therefore initially unsuccessful.

A rescue dog squadron was also used.

In addition, investigations into possible contact persons and corresponding surveys were carried out.

The search has been intensified since Thursday morning, the police said.

A drone with a thermal imaging camera is also used.

The population is informed of the missing person via loudspeakers and citizens are questioned.

Numerous police and rescue workers from the fire brigade are on duty.

The search also includes the area around the Fulda Aueweiher.

Any witnesses who could provide information about the boy's whereabouts were asked to report to the East Hesse police headquarters.

In the afternoon, "the search on site was interrupted," said a spokesman.

A two-year-old girl was only reported missing in Fulda on Monday evening.

After initial investigations, the toddler had left his parents' apartment unnoticed in wintry weather.

After an extensive search, divers discovered a dead child in a canal in the East Hessian city the following afternoon, who, according to initial findings, was very likely to be a two-year-old.

The public prosecutor's office ordered an autopsy to clarify the circumstances of death this Friday.
