The US radio telescope collapsed, leaving only China’s FAST "sky eye" in the world

On December 1, the National Science Foundation confirmed that the Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico, known as one of the “two big eyes” of the earth, collapsed. Following two serious cable accidents in August this year, the telescope was suspended for receiving equipment. The platform fell on the same day and destroyed the surface of the telescope reflector. The telescope is probably no longer usable. Reconstruction is currently one of the most feasible methods.

If the 305-meter Arecibo radio telescope loses its function, then the world in the field of astronomical exploration will have to rely on another "big eye" in Guizhou, China, the 500-meter spherical radio telescope FAST.
