A Reuters statistics showed that more than 64.26 million people were infected with the emerging corona virus worldwide, while the total deaths resulting from the virus reached one million and 492676, and HIV infections were recorded in more than 210 countries and regions since the first cases were discovered in China in December 2019, while a UN study revealed that one billion people are threatened with extreme poverty due to the repercussions of "Corona".

The number of people who were transferred to hospitals within one day, due to their infection with the Coronavirus in the United States, exceeded the 100,000 mark, which is the highest level ever, with the spread of the epidemic, and the pressure on health care systems.

100 thousand and 226 Americans were admitted to hospitals, the day before yesterday, according to data collected by the Coronavirus Tracking Project, which is the latest in a series of daily records that lasted for weeks.

Officials in some states, including California, have warned of a shortage of hospital beds and staff.

Luan Woodward, who leads Mississippi's largest hospital system, the University of Mississippi Medical Center, tweeted that all beds have been occupied with patients.

The United States recorded nearly 200,000 new cases of coronavirus, on Wednesday, and 2,733 deaths from the virus.

Meanwhile, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Robert Redfield, has warned that the number of deaths could reach 450,000 by February.

"The truth is, December, January and February are going to be tough times," Redfield said.

I really think it will be the most difficult time in the history of public health for this nation ».

While vaccines are available, health experts expect that the gatherings during Thanksgiving and other holidays will further accelerate the widespread rise in the number of infections.

Yesterday, the number of people infected with "Covid-19" in Iran, the country most affected by the epidemic in the Middle East, exceeded the one million mark, as announced by a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health, Sima Sadat Larry.

Since its appearance in February, the epidemic has killed 49,348 people in Iran, according to official figures.

However, these numbers are far below reality, even according to the admission of some officials, such as Health Minister Saeed Namaki.

The Italian government approved, the night before last, a decree to tighten conditions for movement in the country during New Year's Eve celebrations, to contain the outbreak of the "Covid-19" epidemic.

And from December 21 to January 6, movement between Italy's 20 regions will be banned, except for health reasons or for work.

In addition, it will be prohibited on December 25 and 26, and on January 1, to travel outside the city or town, except for health reasons or for work.

Greece announced that isolation measures will be extended for a week until December 14, due to the number of cases, which is still high.

Yesterday, the German Minister of Economy announced that Germany would not be able to continue its support for the economy "indefinitely" to confront the epidemic, referring to the review of the emergency mechanism as of January.

With the return of restrictions in November, Germany strengthened its measures to support companies by offering compensation of up to 75% of the lost profit in turnover.

These measures will cost the federal government 30 billion euros.

In the same context, a United Nations study, published yesterday, revealed that more than a billion people may live in extreme poverty by 2030, due to the long-term effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The United Nations Development Program said that this figure could be reached if the recovery period extended and the economic crisis persisted, pushing an additional 207 million people into poverty.

The study finds, based on current death rates and growth projections by the International Monetary Fund, that another 44 million people will be pushed below the poverty line over the next 10 years.

The United Nations Development Program stated that, despite this, the increase in extreme poverty can be avoided. Through investments in social welfare programs, governance, digitization and an environmentally friendly economy, the pre-pandemic development path can be skipped, lifting 146 million people out of poverty.

"The (Covid-19) pandemic is a turning point, and the choices that leaders are currently making could take the world in very different paths," said program director Achim Steiner during a press conference.

We have an opportunity to invest in a decade of work that not only helps people recover from (Covid-19), but also redefines the path of development for people and the planet towards a more just, resilient and environmentally friendly future. ”

Lebanon: Cases are rising and hospital beds will not suffice

Yesterday, the Minister of Health in the caretaker government in Lebanon warned of the lack of hospital beds to deal with the increasing cases of "Covid-19", saying that the Lebanese had not fully committed to a two-week closure that ended this week.

In a tweet, Minister Hamad Hassan said that cases are increasing, adding that despite adding more beds in hospitals, it will not be enough.

The intensive care units were almost full when Lebanon ordered the closure, and the head of the caretaker government, Hassan Diab, warned of the possibility of extending the closure if people did not comply with the restrictions of combating Corona.

The Ministry of Health said, the day before yesterday, that 1842 cases of "Covid-19" were recorded, and 22 deaths during the past 24 hours.

The total number of Corona deaths reached 1055 in the country of six million, as the health care system is deteriorating.
