Leipzig / Berlin (dpa) - For its commitment to people who have lost a parent or a sibling, the Leipzig association "Wolfsträne" receives the German Engagement Prize 2020. It accompanies children and young people in a professional manner and in a protected environment to help them To be able to cope with grief, the organizer announced on Thursday.

The prize is endowed with 5000 euros and was awarded in the “Preserving life” category.

The projects “Meet a Jew” of the Central Council of Jews in Germany in the “Strengthening Democracy” category, “Die Platte lives eV” from Schwerin in the “Connecting Generations” category, and the “Prisoners helping young people” association from Hamburg in were also recognized in the “Creating opportunities” category.

The audience award, endowed with 10,000 euros, went to the project "Tommy not alone - the clinic nannies" of the Rostock University Medical Center.

The award has been in recognition of civic engagement in Germany since 2009.

Sponsors are the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth, the German TV Lottery and the Deutsche Bahn Foundation.
