As the diplomats said, the Japanese side "on an ongoing basis" collects information about the actions of the Russian military "in the northern territories" (as the Russian southern Kuril Islands are called in Japan).
"On December 1, the Japanese Embassy in Russia protested the Russian Foreign Ministry, noting that such actions are related to strengthening Russian military potential and are incompatible with the position of our country on these islands," the statement said.
As the agency clarifies, earlier the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the calculations of the S-300V4 of the Eastern Military District (VVO) took up combat duty on the islands of the Kuril ridge.
Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated that Moscow categorically rejects Japan's claims regarding defense measures in the Kuril Islands.
As the diplomat noted, the Russian side has the right to any activity on its sovereign territory.
