Munich (AP) - The trial against professional soccer player Jérôme Boateng (32) on charges of bodily harm before the Munich district court has been postponed.

The date originally planned for December 10th has been canceled, said court spokesman Klaus-Peter Jüngst on Tuesday.

One witness was “prevented from appearing due to corona”.

He also announced: "The chairman will determine a new date after the necessary votes and taking into account the general conditions set by the pandemic."

The public prosecutor accuses the Bayern star and 2014 world champion of willful bodily harm.

He is said to have injured his ex-girlfriend during an argument on vacation.

Among other things, it should be about a video that was submitted to his discharge.

Boateng's side had not issued a statement when the trial date became known in October.

According to reports from WDR and “Süddeutscher Zeitung” from last year, the defense attorneys had stated at the time that the issue was a private matter that was essentially based on unproven claims by third parties.

According to the local court in October, the indictment had already been served in February 2019, and the court had approved it in December 2019.

The termination had been delayed.

On the one hand, Boateng only commented after the prosecution had been served, on the other hand, limited negotiation options due to the corona pandemic led to delays at the courts.

According to the court, there is a fine or imprisonment of up to five years for willful bodily harm.

The presumption of innocence applies until a judgment is reached.

Central defender Boateng has been playing for FC Bayern since 2011.

His contract in Munich expires next summer.

How it will go on for him afterwards is open.
