Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Bus and train travel across the borders of the regional transport associations in North Rhine-Westphalia should be easier with a uniform electronic tariff from the end of next year.

The Aachener Verkehrsverbund, the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr, the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg, the WestfalenTarif GmbH, the Zweckverband Nahverkehr Westfalen-Lippe and the state have agreed on an “eTarif NRW”.

"This is the first time in this dimension in Germany," said Transport Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) on Wednesday at the online presentation with representatives from the association.

The state is funding this project with 100 million euros until 2031.

The new nationwide uniform tariff supplements the previous one, according to the information.

Only transitional tariffs between the alliances were dropped.

Initially, the new offer is primarily intended to bring more occasional passengers onto the buses and trains, who previously had to laboriously search for a connection ticket for onward travel in the area of the other transport association.

The user can buy the ticket with his smartphone when boarding.

The price is calculated after getting off with a basic price and the straight-line kilometers between start and finish.

The upper price limit should be 30 euros in 24 hours.
