Wolfsburg (dpa) - The presidium of the VW supervisory board did not make a decision on Tuesday evening about a possible early contract extension for CEO Herbert Diess.

At the meeting, the closest circle of the committee prepared the topics for the next larger round.

Participants reported that various points had been discussed - in essence, however, it should not have been about the contractual issues relating to Diess.

There was initially no further information on the content of the further deliberations.

At the end of the year, the Volkswagen supervisors often go through various topics in a kind of inventory.

In the past week there had been new speculations about the future of Diess at the world's largest automaker.

According to this, the CEO should feel slowed down by the employees when it comes to important personnel proposals and the accelerated restructuring of the group.

Works Council Chairman Bernd Osterloh, with whom Diess had already clashed several times on strategic and personnel issues, also sits on the Supervisory Board Presidium.

Observers suspected that Diess could demand backing from the inspectors in the form of a "vote of confidence".
