Potsdam (dpa / bb) - From today, stricter rules for protection against the corona virus apply in Brandenburg.

Private meetings - whether at home or outdoors - are only possible with up to five instead of up to ten people from two households, not including children under 14 years of age.

The cabinet decided this on Friday.

From the seventh grade onwards, students must wear a mask, except in physical education classes and long school-leaving exams.

So far, the mask requirement applied to high school students.

The mouth and nose protection will be extended to public areas such as banks, post offices, authorities and hospitals as well as to places with many people outdoors; the locations will be decided by the municipalities.

In larger shops over 800 square meters, only one customer is allowed to shop per 20 square meters, in smaller shops one customer per 10 square meters.

Tourist overnight stays in hotels and pensions remain taboo, restaurants and cafés are still closed, only take-away sales are allowed there.

Theaters, cinemas and museums will also remain closed.

The rules apply until December 21st.
