Schwerin / Florence (dpa / mv) - The volleyball players of SSC Palmberg Schwerin started the group stage of the Champions League with a win.

At the tournament in Florence, Italy, the team of SSC coach Felix Koslowski celebrated a 3: 1 (25:27, 25:18, 25:18, 25:18) victory over the Polish club SkyRes Rzeszow on Tuesday evening.

The Schwerin women’s best point collectors were Greta Szakmáry and Hayley Spelman with 20 points each.

In the group of four, the Mecklenburg women will meet top Italian teams from Savino Del Bene Scandicci (Wednesday, 5.30 p.m.), in whose ranks there are two former SSC players in Kimberly Drewniok and Luna Carocci, and Busto Arsizio (Thursday, 5.30 p.m.).

On Tuesday, the host team from Scandicci prevailed 3-2 in the Italian duel.

In the second half of the group stage, the German record champions will host the Palmberg Arena in the first week of February 2021.

From the total of five relays of four, the first in the group and the three best second qualify for the quarter-finals.
