Neubrandenburg (dpa / mv) - After a sharp increase in new corona infections, the Mecklenburg Lake District district has issued further tightening.

From December 3rd to January 8th, there will be no face-to-face teaching at the vocational schools in the district, as a spokeswoman for the district said on Tuesday.

This provides for a general order issued by District Administrator Heiko Kärger (CDU).

The reason is "increased infection potential due to the high number of commuters" in and from the largest district of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Apprentices should work in distance learning; exceptions apply to vocational training courses and final classes.

In official areas with the most infections - Woldegk, Friedland, Stargarder Land and Amt Seenlandschaft Waren - a mask requirement applies from this Wednesday onwards for students from grade 5 and teachers.

Up to the holidays from December 18, alternating lessons were also arranged in some class levels so that only half of the students come to class.

In the lake district, the weekly value is 74.4 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants, about twice as high as in mid-November.

In the official areas concerned, this number would - purely arithmetically - range from 93 (Woldegk) to 595 (Friedland).

"There are clearly too many," emphasized Kärger.

In all of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania the incidence is 46.7 infections per 100,000 inhabitants.
