Karlsruhe (dpa / lsw) - In Karlsruhe, a new mayor will be elected on Sunday (December 6th).

Six candidates are running, including the previous mayor Frank Mentrup (SPD).

The 56-year-old is also supported by the Greens.

Also up for election in Baden-Württemberg's third largest city are: Sven Weigt (49) - the mayor of Karlsdorf-Neuthard (CDU) also competes for the FDP -, city councilor Petra Lorenz (53) for the Free Voters / For Karlsruhe, the AfD municipal councilor Paul Schmidt (54), Vanessa Schulz (39) from “The Party” and the non-party registrar Marc Nehlig (26).

With 308,988 inhabitants (as of the end of July), the fan-shaped city of Karlsruhe is the third largest municipality in Baden-Württemberg after Stuttgart and Mannheim.

On December 6, 233,000 eligible voters have the floor.

If no winner emerges from the election, a new election is scheduled for December 20th.
