Two people were killed and a dozen others were injured after being mown down by a car in a pedestrian area in Trier, in the southwest of the country.

One person was arrested, local police said.

The causes of this incident remain to be determined. 

A car hit passers-by on Tuesday in a pedestrian zone in Trier, in southwestern Germany, killing two and injuring a dozen.

"We arrested one person, a vehicle was seized," local police said on their twitter account, adding that "the causes remain to be determined."
