Stolberg (dpa / lnw) - Firefighters rescued a dog and two rabbits from a burning apartment building in Stolberg near Aachen.

"The residents were able to leave the building on time so that nobody was injured," said the fire department on Monday evening.

As soon as they arrived at the scene, thick black smoke had spread.

"Flames were already breaking out of the roof and roof tiles fell onto the street."

A total of 100 emergency services were involved in the fire fighting.

Just in time the fire was prevented from spreading to neighboring houses.

After about six hours, the post-extinguishing work was also over.

The police were initially unable to provide any information about the cause of the fire.

There were no indications of arson.
