On Tuesday morning, Mörbylånga municipality announced that they advise against visiting Äppelvägen's special accommodation because they have contracted covid infection.

How the infection got into the home is still unclear according to Anders Törnblom who is a medically responsible nurse.

- We work closely with infection control in the region.

We have daily contact and consult with them on what are the most appropriate decisions.

How do you view this, given IVO's criticism of the regions' shortcomings in care for the elderly during the pandemic that came last week?

- We do not really see that it is true with us, we think we have followed the guidelines and routines that have existed all along.

We have done very well, we have not had any infection until now.

We have managed to hold on to the bar as much as we can and we think we are doing well, says Anders Törnblom.

Reduce the spread of infection

Anders Törnblom explains that, in addition to advising against visits, they review everything that can be done to reduce the spread of infection.

Such as using protective equipment, isolating people with symptoms and working with the basic hygiene rules.

- The staff has always worn protective equipment, but what we add now that we have found infection is that you have both mouth protection and a visor.

The protective equipment is strengthened with one step, he says.

Work is now underway to test both residents and staff.

Reactions from relatives

There is no exact date for when the dissuasion from visits ends.

Anders Törnblom explains that they normally have a slightly higher level for a few weeks.

However, many relatives seem to be understanding.

- The reaction we have received is that it is understandable because the situation is as it is.

We try to solve the social contact with other means such as using the tablet and skype.
