The life of a girl born yesterday in the hospital of Vibo Valentia lasted just over an hour.

The little girl was born after a caesarean section but died of respiratory problems during the ambulance transport from the hospital of Vibo Valentia to that of Catanzaro.

The ministry sends inspectors

Health Minister Beatrice Lorenzin has decided to send a task force to shed "full light on what happened".

The child's mother, who had already had problems with pregnancies in the past, underwent a caesarean section this morning at the end of which she gave birth to a baby girl.

Immediately after the birth, the doctors became aware of the precarious health conditions of the newborn due to respiratory problems and decided to move to the Apulian hospital in the Calabrian capital.

Investigation initiated

The child was placed in an ambulance equipped with a thermal cradle to preserve its temperature.

During the transport, however, her health conditions worsened and the race against time to save her life broke shortly after an hour, when she died.

The parents, a couple from Acquaro, received the news while they were in the hospital of Vibo Valentia.

To ascertain the causes of death, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Vibo Valentia has launched an investigation.

The deputy public prosecutor, Santi Cutroneo, ordered the acquisition of the medical documentation and medical records.

The state police officers heard the child's father, while the mother will be heard in the next few hours because she is currently hospitalized in Vibo hospital.

The heads of the health company have launched an internal investigation to reconstruct the incident.

Question to the government

The doctors who performed the caesarean section urged that an autopsy be carried out in order to quickly clarify the causes of the child's death.

After the death of the newborn there was no lack of political controversies related to the health situation in Calabria.

The parliamentary of the 5 Star Movement, Dalila Nesci, has announced a question to the government.

According to the parliamentarian, the situation in Calabria of "neonatal intensive care is critical".

The child was transferred from Vibo to Catanzaro "despite having to arrive - according to Nesci - in the hospital in Cosenza, provided with neonatal care".
