Dresden (dpa / sn) - In Saxony, the number of new corona infections remains at a high level.

According to statistics published by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday, well over 1,500 detected cases of infection were registered within one day.

That is 13 more than on Tuesday last week - at that time, 1563 new infections were announced within 24 hours.

In addition, there are 45 new deaths related to the coronavirus.

A total of 1006 people in the Free State have died of or with Corona since the beginning of the pandemic in March.

More than 2,200 patients currently have to be treated in the hospitals - including almost 400 people in the intensive care unit.

Only for Leipzig, the district of Leipzig and the Vogtland district does the authority show infection numbers below the very critical mark of 200 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days.

In most counties as well as in Dresden and Chemnitz, stricter exit and contact restrictions apply.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, this warning value is currently an average of 257 infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week in all of Saxony.

That is the highest value of all federal states.
