The Emirates Space Agency and the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center announced the opening of registration for the new session of the "Space Science Research for University Students" program, one of the pioneering programs in developing scientific research capabilities within the initiatives of the generation of hope for the UAE project for the exploration of Mars, the "Probe of Hope".

The program is scheduled to start next summer and is designed to provide Emirati undergraduate students specializing in the fields of science and engineering with an opportunity to gain practical and research experience in distinguished space science centers in the country and abroad, as the scientific team in the Emirates Mars Exploration Project, along with international scientists, will guide students During the program.

Over the past years, the Undergraduate Space Science Research Program has witnessed the participation of 31 Emirati students from various disciplines, including aeronautical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, computer engineering, sustainable and renewable energy engineering, chemical engineering, environmental science and science. PC.

The director of the Emirates Mars Exploration Project, “The Hope Probe”, Omran Sharaf, said, “The space science research program provides Emirati youth with a unique opportunity to embark on a scientific experiment to refine their abilities and skills, and to learn from the best experiences, in a specialized scientific forum that brings together experts from leading space centers on World, and among students aspiring to explore their future career paths in the space sector.

The program is also considered an ideal opportunity for the team of the Emirates Project to explore Mars, to transfer their expertise to a new generation of researchers, motivate them and develop their interest in science and engineering.

The Deputy Director of the Emirates Mars Exploration Project for the Scientific Team, Hessa Al-Matroushi, stated that the development of scientific cadres is an important pillar of the Emirates Mars Exploration Project, the "Probe of Hope", to encourage an environment that stimulates innovation and scientific research, and fosters a new generation of scientists, researchers and academics.

She added that the space science research program for undergraduate students will be held next summer, and the program is designed to provide Emirati students specializing in science and engineering with opportunities to gain practical and research experience within space science facilities in the UAE and abroad, with the aim of empowering a new generation of Emirati researchers and scientists.

The application process to join the program begins in December and ends next January, and the program is scheduled to start in the summer of 2021, and lasts from 8 to 10 weeks, and students must attend a preparatory workshop for the space science research program for undergraduates before the start of the program. This workshop provides them with basic knowledge and information in space science and research.

Upon the start of the program, students will be assigned to work on a research project and provide them with specific guidance and tasks during the training period. They will also be able to publish their research results in local and international conferences and in front of the scientific team of the Emirates Mars Exploration Project "Probe of Hope".

Since the launch of the program in 2015 until now, it has attracted the interest of 344 male and female students who have come to participate in it, and has helped produce 21 research projects that have been published in international scientific conferences or journals, and the program has also contributed to enhancing the interest of students in the UAE to work in the space field.

6 scientific institutions

Students accepted into the Space Science Research Program can choose one of six scientific institutions: the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates University in Al Ain, the Atmospheric and Space Physics Laboratory in Boulder, the Space Science Laboratory in California Berkeley, and Northern Arizona University In Flagstaff, USA, as well as the Laboratory for Dynamic Meteorology (LMD) in Paris, France.
