The accident occurred at the Saarbrücken junction in the afternoon, and in the late evening the motorway was not yet fully open.
The burning tires would have affected the road, it said.

There had already been an accident on the A8 before the fire, in which a 49-year-old truck driver, probably also due to a technical defect, had lost control of his vehicle and fell over.
