Passau (dpa) - According to figures from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the Lower Bavarian city of Passau, together with the Thuringian district of Hildburghausen, is a corona hotspot nationwide.

The seven-day incidence - i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week - was 579.5 on Monday.

According to the data, the previous front runner, the Thuringian district of Hildburghausen, is just behind.

Here the seven-day incidence was 579.1.

An RKI spokeswoman confirmed the numbers.

In Passau, people have only been allowed to leave their apartments for a valid reason since Saturday.

The RKI's numbers are comparatively low on Sundays and Mondays because, according to the RKI, fewer samples are taken on the weekend and therefore fewer tests are carried out overall.
