Municipal in Brazil: Bolsonaro confirms his failure, the center-right big winner

At the end of the second round of the municipal elections which were held on November 29 in Brazil, the center-right is the big winner of this ballot which was a test for President Jair Bolsonaro.

Most of the candidates he supported failed to get elected.

In Rio de Janeiro, the outgoing mayor lost the election

Marcelo Crivella was very conservative and close to the powerful Evangelical Churches but that was not enough to win.

Mayor of the city during the World Cup and the Olympic Games, Eduardo Paes won with 64% of the vote.

Across Brazil, the right and center-right dominate this municipal election, like São Paulo, the economic capital, where the outgoing mayor has been re-elected.

Bruno Covas benefited from the support of the governor, the very liberal João Doria, the main political opponent of the Brazilian president.

In São Paulo, despite everything, the left is making a breakthrough, as in several other cities of the country, in the south, but also in Belém, in the state of Pará, in the north.

Brazilians have favored traditional political parties, to the detriment of candidates backed by the president.

The loss of Rio de Janeiro, one of its electoral strongholds, is a symbol.

The economic crisis that has hit Brazil since the start of the pandemic had so far only slightly affected the popularity of Jair Bolsonaro.

These municipal elections show that Brazilians aspire to change.
