There are several studies that point to the fact that people with foreign names have a harder time, for example, being called for job interviews - even if they are qualified for the job.

One who has read about this is Mattias Rumni in Strömsund, who also felt that his previous name had probably been to his detriment and that in some cases he had been de-prioritized.

- Yes, I have felt it, but I have no proof that it is so.

But to escape that problem, I changed my name.

Satisfied with the new name

When Mattias Rumni came to Sweden in 2014, as a refugee from Syria, he had a completely different first and last name.

But he does not think it is a great sacrifice he has made.

- A name is just like an address.

And I think I managed to come up with a name that does not stand out too much.

I am satisfied.
