Ulm (dpa / lsw) - The first Vesperkiches in the country open their doors.

It all started with the Protestant community in Bopfingen (Ostalbkreis) on the weekend, and from Monday there will be a warm meal for poor and disadvantaged people in Ulm-Wiblingen for the first time.

As in many other places in the country, a changed offer with food distribution and takeaway bags is planned, as a spokesman for the Diakonie Württemberg announced.

Only in larger cities like Stuttgart and Karlsruhe will there be places in the local Vesper churches from January - but this too to a lesser extent and in some cases with time restrictions.

Instead of 34 parishes as in the previous year, there will only be 25 Vesper churches in the state this season.

Many volunteers belonged to the risk group of the disease Covid-19 due to their age and did not want to take any risk of infection, according to the Diakonie.

In addition, there is often a lack of rooms in which the rules for hygiene and ventilation can be observed.

In some Vesperkichen there should even be a registration system.

But in nine communities in the southwest, the challenges posed by the pandemic were too great, and the decision was made this year against a Vespers church.
