China News Agency, Washington, November 30 (Reporter Chen Mengtong) The US President-elect Biden announced on November 30 that he intends to nominate Janet Yellen as Secretary of the Treasury.

Yellen, 74, is a Jewish economist and has a PhD in economics from Yale University.

She served as Chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers during the tenure of former President Clinton.

Yellen has worked for the Federal Reserve for many years, successively serving as governor of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and vice chairman of the Federal Reserve.

In 2014, Yellen, who was nominated by then President Obama, became the first female chairperson in the history of the Federal Reserve.

If Yellen’s nomination for secretary of the Treasury is approved by the Senate, she will not only become the first female Treasury Secretary in American history, but also the first U.S. official with the experience of serving as Secretary of the Treasury, Chairman of the White House Committee of Economic Advisers and Chairman of the Federal Reserve.

Wally Adeyemo, currently chairman of the Obama Foundation, was nominated by the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury.

Adejemo, born in 1981, served as a senior international economic adviser under Obama.

He is expected to become the first African American Deputy Secretary of the Treasury.

Biden also announced the proposed list of members of the White House Council of Economic Advisers.

Cecilia Rouse (Cecilia Rouse) proposed to serve as the chairman of the committee.

She is currently the Dean of the School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University and an economist specializing in education and equality issues.

Rose was a member of the White House Council of Economic Advisers during Obama's tenure and also served on the National Economic Council of the Clinton Administration.

The other two proposed members of the committee are Jared Bernstein and Heather Boushey.

Both are economic advisers who have long assisted Biden.

The White House Council of Economic Advisors and the National Economic Council are the two main economic advisory groups of the President of the United States.

The White House Economic Advisory Committee is generally composed of three academic economists. It is mainly responsible for the internal economic analysis of the White House, including liaising with the Department of Commerce, the Department of Labor and other federal government departments to report the US economic data to the White House and preparing to submit the President’s annual economic report to Congress.

Biden said in a statement that his economic team is "respected, tried and pioneering."

While helping the United States fight the new crown epidemic, their work will rescue the American people and solve the structural inequality in the economy.

On the same day, the Biden team announced the formal establishment of the Presidential Inaugural Committee to prepare for the inauguration ceremony on January 20 next year.

Tony Allen, president of Delaware State University, will serve as chief executive officer of the committee.

Allen said that in the context of the new crown virus pandemic, next year’s inauguration will look different, “but we will respect the tradition of the inauguration of the US president, and involve Americans from all over the country, while protecting everyone’s Health and safety".
