Passau (dpa) - The shops in Passau, Lower Bavaria, were open on Saturday, but it was comparatively quiet in the city center on the first weekend in Advent.

Strict exit restrictions to combat the corona pandemic have been in force in the city of 52,000 since Saturday.

Christmas bustle was therefore canceled.

The measures should initially last a week, as Lord Mayor Jürgen Dupper (SPD) announced on Friday.

By Sunday, the number of new corona infections had risen significantly again - according to the State Office for Health (LGL) to an incidence value of just under 538 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days.

Dupper announced the exit restrictions on Friday after the incidence value rose to almost 440 new infections.

According to the OB, the measures could be relaxed at the earliest when the number of infections drops to an incidence of 300.

According to their own statements, the police are on duty with several patrol crews to check compliance with the rules.

The balance was positive on Sunday.

People stuck to the guidelines, said a spokesman.

Only on Saturday night had officials found a violation of the Infection Protection Act in one apartment: There three people from different households had celebrated together.

The police had been made aware of the trio by neighbors for disturbing the peace.

The three celebrants received a notice.

Passers-by who were out shopping in the city center on Saturday reacted - when asked about the measures - mostly calmly and with understanding.

People in Passau are only allowed to leave their homes for a valid reason, for example to go to work, to the doctor or to go shopping.

There is also a ban on alcohol in public places.

The city decreed alternating lessons for grades 7 to 11 - with the exception of final classes at middle and secondary schools.

If you want to visit a relative in a nursing home, you have to do a quick test beforehand to prove that you are not infected.
