Hamburg (dpa / lno) - FC St. Pauli decided not to commemorate the Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona in its second division game against VfL Osnabrück (0: 1).
Before the game against Lower Saxony on Friday evening, there was no minute's silence at the Kiezclub.
And unlike the Osnabrückers, the Hamburg players didn't wear a black ribbon.
Maradona died on Wednesday at the age of 60, causing deep grief worldwide.
The German Football League (DFL) left the clubs free, “whether they want to hold a minute of silence or play in a black ribbon,” said St. Pauli Oke Göttlich to the “Hamburger Morgenpost”.
The football family said goodbye to Maradona, including FC St. Pauli, said the club boss.
«He was undoubtedly an exceptional player.
However, black ribbon or a minute's silence have a strong symbolism that is reserved for people from the club or the immediate environment, ”explained Göttlich.
