Berlin (dpa / bb) - In Berlin, new contact restrictions for private meetings to contain the corona pandemic came into force on Sunday.

Private get-togethers with friends, relatives and acquaintances are limited to a maximum of five people in your own household and in one other household.

So far, there is an upper limit of ten people.

Children up to 12 years are exempt.

Berlin thus deviates somewhat from the latest federal-state resolutions.

The federal and state governments had proposed an age limit for children of 14 years and a tightening of the rules from December 1, i.e. from Tuesday.

In contrast to other federal states, the Senate does not allow any relaxation of the contact restrictions over Christmas and New Year's Eve because the corona numbers in Berlin with an incidence of more than 200 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week are higher than elsewhere.

A maximum of five people may meet for private gatherings over the holidays, not including children up to the age of 14.

The federal and state governments, on the other hand, had agreed an upper limit of ten people plus children up to 14 years of age for meetings “in the closest family or friends” from December 23 to January 1.

The partial lockdown, which has been in force since November 2nd, i.e. the closure of restaurants, cultural and leisure facilities, was initially extended in Berlin to December 22nd.

The federal and state governments had agreed on an extension to December 20.

Without this step, the regulation would have expired on Sunday.
