So far this year, 43 people have been shot dead in Sweden.

It is a fatal shooting more than throughout 2019, which means that the deadly firearms violence in the country can reach a new maximum level, reports SR Ekot.

- These are the effects of work that was not done 10, 20, 30 years ago, says Linda H Staaf, head of the police's national intelligence unit, to Ekot.

In 2016, the police authority began, on behalf of the government, to keep statistics on all shootings in the country.

In 2018, 45 fatal shootings were reported, which so far has been the highest confirmed figure.

Increases in Stockholm

At the same time, Stockholm County accounts for an increasing share, up to half, of the country's fatal shootings.

Something that the police state for Ekot can be explained by the fact that there is increasing pressure on the criminal actors.

- But we see positive trends.

And an important part is that the police should be able to operate in the areas and pave the way for other societal actors to establish themselves in the areas, says Linda H Staaf to Ekot.
