Argentina's public prosecutor's office said the country's judicial authorities will investigate the death of soccer star Diego Maradona and order searches of his personal doctor's property on Sunday.

Maradona died at the age of 60 from a heart attack on Wednesday.

The prosecutor’s office said in a statement that prosecutors in the Buenos Aires suburb of San Isidro issued the search warrant and it was signed by a local judge.

"Yesterday (Saturday) investigations and evidence of evidence continued with listening to the statements of people, including direct relatives of the deceased ... Based on the evidence gathered, it was necessary to issue a search warrant for the home and office of Doctor Leopoldo Loki," the statement said.

The public prosecutor’s office did not mention the reasons that led to the investigation.

On Thursday, Maradona's lawyer, Matthias Moria, said he would seek investigations into the circumstances of the soccer legend's death, criticizing what he described as a slow response from the emergency service.

"The ambulance took more than half an hour to arrive, which is criminal folly," Moria tweeted on Thursday.
