German Mick Schumacher, son of Michael, failed to clinch the title in Formula 2 during the penultimate stage of the season, this weekend in Bahrain, on the Sakhir circuit, in rising of F1 curtain.

The 21-year-old driver, tipped for F1 in 2021 at Haas, arrived in the kingdom at the top of the standings, 22 points ahead of Britain's Callum Ilott.

After the two races of this weekend (which he finished 4th and 7th), the gap is only 14 lengths, with 48 points at most still to be taken between the final qualifying and the last two races on next weekend.

The F2 remains in Bahrain but the race moves to the outside track of the Sakhir circuit, the shortest on the calendar after Monaco (3.543 km), its three long straights and only eleven turns.

As for the French Théo Pourchaire (17 years old), who starts in F2 after placing 2nd in the F3 championship, he retired on Sunday after the extinguisher in his car accidentally went off.

In the first race on Saturday, he was 18th out of 22.
