It was in March that Jan Andersson, who lives in a nursing home, became ill with covid-19.

His doctor informed the relatives that Jan would not be able to cope.

But after pressure from his son Thomas Andersson, Jan received the treatment that the doctor had previously said no to, and survived.

- No one has talked to me about any palliative care.

They have given him morphine instead of care, so when I come into his room he has so much morphine in him that he is not contactable, says his son Thomas Andersson.

According to Thomas, Jan was dehydrated and needed a drip, but the doctor did not want to prescribe it.

It was only after Thomas contacted the media, among others, that the doctor changed.

Want to see a change

Now both Jan and Thomas hope that it happened this spring, will never happen again.

- I thought that everyone had the right to the same care in this country.

Obviously this is not the case, and those who live in nursing homes somehow end up at the bottom of the list.

They should not be able to provide this kind of care, it should not be feasible, it should cost them far too much, he continues.

SVT has unsuccessfully sought the people responsible for medical care at Jan's accommodation.

In Sunday's Agenda, Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren (S) is asked about IVO's criticism of care for the elderly.
