"Bird flu has been confirmed on a commercial turkey farm near Northallerton in North Yorkshire," said State Veterinary Officer Christine Middlemiss in a statement.

All 10,500 birds on the farm will be killed to limit the spread of the disease, according to the statement.

It also appears that the infection does not pose a danger to public health.

In November, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Denmark and Croatia were affected by local outbreaks.
