The second start of the F1 Bahrain GP, interrupted on Sunday by a spectacular crash for Frenchman Romain Grosjean (Haas), was marred by a second incident, which saw the car of Canadian Lance Stroll (Racing Point) land at the upside down after hanging.

Stroll was hit by Russian Daniil Kvyat (AlphaTauri), already involved in the Grosjean crash.

Its single-seater rolled over to stop with its wheels in the air, resting on its halo, the protective arch that overhangs the cockpit to protect the pilots' heads.

The Canadian got out with the help of the F1 medical car staff and the race was neutralized by the safety car.

Shortly after the first start at 5:10 p.m. local (3:10 p.m. French / 2:10 p.m. GMT), on the first lap, at the exit of turn 3, Grosjean's F1 left the track following contact with a wheel of the car of Kvyat and hit the security barriers at full speed.

On impact, the chassis was cut in half, gasoline likely spilled and a fire instantly broke out, but the 34-year-old pilot managed to extricate himself from the "survival cell" (the reinforced cockpit of F1) and to move away from the blaze to be taken in an ambulance.

He suffers from "minor burns to his hands and ankles but is fine," his team quickly announced to the media.

The Frenchman was taken to hospital by helicopter to confirm "possible rib fractures".
