Dresden (dpa / sn) - With the current infection situation in Saxony, the State Student Council (LSR) considers the introduction of alternating lessons in schools to be the right thing to do.

"Schools should have the freedom to deal with the specific conditions - for example the frequency of changes - on their particular characteristics, especially the spatial situation and class sizes," said state student spokeswoman Joanna Kesicka, according to a statement on Saturday.

The formats should be designed in consultation with the student representatives.

In general, the state student council welcomed the measures adopted by the state government on Friday.

If there are 200 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days, regular school operations are to be restricted.

There should be fixed classes at the primary schools, secondary schools will start alternating classes in consultation with the Ministry of Culture.

"In the interest of every single student, we have to ensure that lessons at schools that are only slightly or not at all affected by infections can continue to run as normal as long as possible," said Minister of Education Christian Piwarz (CDU).

The final classes are generally excluded from the interchangeable models.

In addition, from grade 7 onwards, a mask is required in class.

On Friday, according to the Ministry of Health, ten of the 13 districts and independent cities were above the critical limit of 200 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days.

When introducing alternating lessons, the regional student council demanded that the students compensate for the corresponding disadvantages.

“With the changeover model at the latest, it becomes apparent that this school year is not a normal school year.

That is why it cannot be normal standards that are applied to certificates and qualifications, ”explained Kesicka.
