Federal Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD) believes that state compensation payments for the economy are legally required until the end of the corona pandemic.

“We all assume that we will have a vaccine as soon as possible.

However, as long as we experience such serious restrictions, in my opinion there must be help, ”said Lambrecht in the interview with WELT AM SONNTAG.

"This alleviates the severity of the interventions and thus also contributes to the proportionality of the measures." However, the financial possibilities of the federal government are not limitless: "Combating the pandemic is a national task that must be met by the federal government and the states", said the SPD politician.

Lambrecht stood on the side of Union parliamentary group leader Ralph Brinkhaus (CDU), who had also called for financial participation from the federal states.

However, the Justice Minister rejected Brinkhaus' accusation that the compensation payments could not be decided in a round of Prime Ministers with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) because the Bundestag had the right to budget.

"In two supplementary budgets, the parliament authorized the government in the course of this year to take out loans of more than 200 billion euros in 2020 to combat the pandemic and its economic consequences," said Lambrecht.

"And this is exactly what the government does in close coordination with the prime ministers of the federal states."

The minister also announced that the delays in the disbursement of the aid had now been overcome: “It's about tax money.

That is why we need to put in place rules that prevent abuse.

It took the Ministry of Economic Affairs a while to do this.

But now the help is starting, the companies can count on it.
