Today, the State Prosecutor's Office published an educational video material on its social media accounts regarding the penalty for defrauding the protocol address of the information network, with the intention of committing a crime or preventing its discovery.

She indicated that the protocol address of the information network is a numerical identifier assigned to each information technology means participating in an information network, and it is used for communication purposes.

The Public Prosecution indicated that, according to Article 9 of Federal Decree-Law No. 5 of 2012 regarding combating information technology crimes and its amendments, it stipulates that it is punishable by temporary imprisonment and a fine of not less than 500 thousand dirhams and not exceeding two million dirhams, or either of these two penalties, Anyone who circumvents the protocol address of the information network, using a fictitious address, a third-party address, or any other means, with the intention of committing a crime or preventing its discovery.

The State Prosecutor's Office indicated the importance of Federal Decree-Law No. 5 of 2012 regarding combating information technology crimes, and its role in enhancing the confrontation of new crimes that keep pace with the rapid technological development, and responding to them in a deterrent manner, which ensures the reduction of their negative effects on the social and economic interests of the state and individuals, which It results from the misuse of modern technologies.
