Munich (dpa) - After almost 20 years, the ARD hit series “Um Himmels Willen” is canceled.

"We are of the firm conviction that you should stop when it is most beautiful," said the head of the ARD joint editorial team for series in the main evening program, Jana Brandt, according to a message from Saturday.

After 260 episodes, it's time for something new.

"So much can be revealed: we will continue to focus on entertainment for the whole family on Tuesday evenings," it said without giving any details.

"For heaven's sake" ran since January 2002 on Tuesday evening in the first.

Fritz Wepper was there from the start in the role of Wolfgang Wöller, mayor of the fictional town of Kaltenthal.

The series is about a "loving, jerky exchange of blows" - as the ARD report said - between Wöller and the nuns of the local monastery.

The 20th and then the last season should run in spring 2021.

Janina Hartwig will also take part as sister Hanna - in addition to "many other colleagues, some of whom have been on board since the first episode," as it was said.
