Düsseldorf (dpa) - The women's national wheelchair basketball team has been voted “Para-Team of the Decade”.

After being honored as Team of the Year in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015, the team prevailed in an internet election with 37.93 percent of the more than 10,000 votes.

The athletes' 4x100 meter relay finished second (29.33), and the men's goalball team came third (13.84).

“This team has consistently achieved top successes over the past ten years: four times team of the year in German Para Sport, Paralympics winners, two European Championship and two Vice World Championship titles.

You can hardly achieve much more », said Friedhelm Julius Beucher, President of the German Disabled Sports Association (DBS).

The wheelchair basketball players have won a medal at every major event since 2005.

The golden one stands out at the Paralympics 2012. They are already qualified for the next games, which are to take place in Tokyo in 2021.

In addition to the sprint relay and the goalball players, all the other teams of the year from the past decade were also eligible: the cycling team from 2010, the Nordic skiing relay from 2018 and the wheelchair basketball men U22 from 2013.
