Cologne (dpa) - Managing Director Alexander Wehrle of the Bundesliga penultimate 1. FC Köln expects the Corona crisis to result in a loss of sales in the past and current season of at least 40 million euros.

But it could “be an even bigger loss of sales”, said Wehrle of the “Kölnische Rundschau” (Saturday) and addressed as yet unforeseeable aspects such as merchandising, other marketing effects and TV revenues in an international context.

Wehrle emphasized that the association had “appropriate credit lines” and had “very good and trusting discussions” with the banks.

The club could cope with relegation, although this would set the FC back one or two years.

"That's why we have to try to prevent a descent with all our efforts," said the CFO.

The FC had agreed salary adjustments with the players.

“It now applies until the end of January.

Then we'll see how the situation will look in the calendar year 2021, ”added Wehrle.

Negotiations are also under way with the city of Cologne to reduce the stadium rent.
