Baltimore (dpa) - In the USA, more than 13 million confirmed infections with the corona virus have been reported since the beginning of the pandemic.

That came from data from the University of Johns Hopkins (JHU) in Baltimore.

The number of known infections increased by a million within just six days.

According to the university, more than 264,000 people have died so far in connection with a corona infection.

The Sars-CoV-2 pathogen can cause the disease Covid-19.

The United States, a country of around 330 million people, has more confirmed infections and deaths than any other state.

Most recently, the US authorities reported an average of more than 160,000 new infections per day.

Only 110,000 infections had been reported for Thursday, the national holiday of Thanksgiving.

Experts justified this with delays in reports due to public holidays, not a sudden improvement in the infection situation.

The Johns Hopkins website is updated regularly and therefore mostly shows a higher level than the official figures from the US health authority CDC.

In some cases, however, the figures were subsequently corrected.

There have been 12.82 million confirmed infections and nearly 263,000 deaths in the United States, according to the CDC.
