Berlin (dpa) - The December aid for companies affected by the extension of the partial lockdown should have a volume of at least 15 billion euros.

There could be more, said Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD) on Friday in Berlin.

A “wave of corporate bankruptcies” would be much more difficult than spending a lot of money now.

The federal government is already anticipating a financial volume of 14 to 15 billion euros for November aid.

The December aid should work on the model of the November aid, as Scholz made clear.

This means that lost sales for companies and self-employed should be compensated for to a large extent.

Details would now be discussed with the EU Commission, said Scholz.

The federal and state governments had decided to extend the partial lockdown until shortly before Christmas, so that fewer contacts would reduce the high number of infections.

Gastronomy, cultural and leisure facilities are therefore still closed.

The November aid can be requested since Wednesday.

Economics Minister Peter Altmaier (CDU) reported strong demand and so far 28,000 applications.

The first installments should be made quickly.
