President Moon Jae-in has announced that he will promote the establishment of a committee directly under the president and a new vice minister in charge of energy for the transition to a carbon-neutral society.

President Moon said at the '2050 Carbon-neutral Cross-Ministry Strategy Meeting' held in the Blue House on the morning of the 27th, “We will build a strong government-wide promotion system for the transition to a carbon-neutral society.”

President Moon said that the government plans to submit a'long-term low-carbon development strategy' with the 2050 carbon neutral target to the UN within this year, and that the national GHG reduction target in 2030 will be raised as soon as possible before 2025.

At the same time, he announced that he would quickly prepare a roadmap and implementation strategy for each major task such as energy conversion, industrial innovation, and future vehicle conversion.

As an institutional support for this, President Moon said, "We will set up the '2050 Carbon Neutral Committee' under the direct title of the president, where both the public and the public participate, and we will rapidly promote the transition to a carbon neutral society."

He also said, "We will also promote the establishment of a new loan for energy in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy so that the energy conversion policy can receive more power."

President Moon said, "The great transition to a carbon-neutral society will be an opportunity to pursue economic growth and quality of life at the same time," he said. "The structural transformation of the energy system will be the starting point."

At the same time, he said that he would create a new low-carbon industrial ecosystem by fostering future cars as a leading carbon-neutral industry and fostering promising businesses such as hydrogen economy.

President Moon also said that there should be no inequality and alienation in the transition to a carbon-neutral society, and said, "We will create a structure that creates jobs and profits for local residents," through customized strategies for each region.

President Moon also said that he will raise global leadership on the green agenda by holding the next year's summit of P4G, a global conference on green growth.

He said he will continue to cooperate on carbon neutrality with EU and ASEAN countries and strengthen cooperation on climate change policy with the new administration of Biden in the US.
